Game Of Thrones: Where Do The Names Of The Daenerys’ Dragons Come From?

Impossible to miss the three dragons of Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones. But do you know where the names of the three reptiles that everyone fears in Westeros come from? The editorial staff tells you everything!

all about the series Game Of Thrones, here you can find Where Do The Names Of The Daenerys Dragons Come From, enjoy reading

In life, there are two categories of people. Those who walk and those who fly on the back of a dragon. Unfortunately, we belong to the first category of people. Hence our absolute fascination with Drogon, Rhaegal and Viserion, the three “pets” of Daenerys in Game of Thrones. It is thanks to them that Khaleesi is one of the favorites to sit on the imposing Iron Throne at the end of the series.

But we noticed that the names of his three dragons were not unfamiliar to us and we tried to understand where they came from.

Drogon is the most imposing and fiercest of Daenerys Targaryen’s three dragons. With his black and reddish scales and orange eyes, he is clearly the dominant of the litter. It is even said to be the reincarnation of Balerion, the dragon of King Aegon the First, founder of the house of Targaryen.

He is named after Khal Drogo, Khaleesi’s late husband. He is the one who appears most often to his mother. In season 7, he helps her to defeat the army of Cersei Lannister led by Jaime and Bronn.

Rhaegal (on the left on the picture) is the youngest, and therefore, necessarily, the one we see the least. With his green scales, he is however the most singular of the siblings. He often appears, in the background, flying in the skies (would it be more difficult to do in computer-generated images?).

It is named after Rhaegar Targaryen, the elder brother of Daenerys. If he died before he was born, she knows her offspring well: Jon Snow. Who knows, if she comes to have a fourth dragon, she may name him after her nephew (if you followed correctly, it is Jon, her nephew)!

Viserion is the third and last dragon of Daenerys. He is named after his other older brother, Viserys Targaryen, who was killed by Drogo in the first season of the series. While throughout the Game of Thrones, Viserion remained a quiet dragon, it wasn’t until the seventh season that his role was truly revealed.

During the battle “Beyond the Wall” against the King of the Night, the latter pierces the flying reptile with a javelin of ice. Supposedly dead, Daenerys is in mourning. That was not counting the final twist of the season, where the White Walker rides the dragon, looking determined, and makes a nasty 15 minutes on the wall that protects Westeros from invasion. Now both sides have at least one dragon each and are tied. Who will win?
