Best Dragons In Movies And TV

Insert a Fire-Eating Dragon or a winged guardian with scaly skin into a movie or book and it will almost always increase its entertainment quality. From wyverns to nagas (mythological snakes), from wild beasts to the short-nosed Swede (Harry Potter), dragons appeal to people of all ages, and why not?

They are like an improved version of the dinosaurs: powerful, magical, and sometimes even talking. If a dragon in a movie is boring, it’s because filmmakers don’t try hard enough. Their stories are shared around the world, inspiring both wonder and terror, generation after generation.

There are dozens and dozens of dragon films to choose from. Unfortunately, they remain insufficient for my taste, yet you have a good handful of them, a must see for any fan of the genre. In honor of these fabulous beasts, here is my (subjective) ranking of the best dragons in movies. Find below, our collection of Dragon Shirts.

Here Are The Top 7 Dragons In Movies And Tv !

Neverending Story Falkor The Luck Dragon

Falkor, the Lucky Dragon, is closer to a Chinese Dragon than a European Dragon, but most people remember him as a giant, shiny puppy who loved children (not for breakfast). This flying creature is the most beloved of “Neverending story dragon“, very smiling, he shows passion and positivity in the quest for Atreyu.

His huge brown eyes and fluffy fur may have been weird in 1984, but the popularity of Wolfgang Petersen’s film remains stable, as parents introduce their children to their favorite movie every year. Falkor’s enthusiastic participation ? in a virtually harmless plan of revenge against Bastien’s persecutors has also secured him a place in the hearts of young and old alike.

Falkor’s appearance may have inspired David Lowery’s 2016 film “Peter and Elliot the Dragon“. Eliot was shown with hairy, feline features reminiscent of both Falkor and Toothless.

Vermithrax Pejorative Dragon

Vermithrax was a menacing, vicious and wicked dragon whose eyes were riveted on a peaceful land called Urland. Demanding virgin sacrifices twice a year, the dragon remained docile, killing only when its randomly chosen victims were brought in.

vermithrax pejorative dragon

It’s a fun game of giving virgins to the local dragon to eat, until one of those virgins is your daughter ?. Although Peter MacNicol is distancing himself from his 1981 film, “The Fire Lake Dragon” known as “Dragon Slayer” in America remains a cult film.

Between the general strangeness, darkness and the theme of “rescuing the damsel in distress”, Dragonslayer is reminiscent of the archetypal dragon tale, as well as the story of David’s triumph over Goliath, in more ways than one.

Today’s dragon fans might see it and consider its special effects both too obsolete and too dark, but the film was a great cinematic achievement at the time, depicting a dragon on the big screen like no other film had ever done before.

Reign Of Fire

Reign of Fire

Dragon tales are usually set in ancient history, which makes the futuristic film “Reign of Fire” (2002) a particularly exciting version of fantasy. Not only did this entertaining post-apocalyptic film precede the current dystopian media demand, but it also endangered the entire human race in a very unique way: by attacks from dragons?.

The premise seems kitsche enough for a 21st century film, but the reign of fire cast Christian Bale, Matthew McConaughey and Gerard Butler have managed to make it work, and more. Critics didn’t find it very successful, but fantasy fans appreciated Bale’s bravery, Butler’s altruism and McConaughey’s big-eyed madness.

The images of a war in a live dragon movie were unique and satisfying, as humans became the prey in a world dominated by dragons. Box office statistics give the film a modest success and the film, which won an award at the Sitges Film Festival and was nominated for a Saturn Award, was also developed into a video game.

Peter And Elliot The Dragon

Peter and Elliot the Dragon

This invisible green dragon allows an orphan named Peter to have fun and stay out of trouble. The original Disney movie was remake with Robert Redford and Bryce Dallas Howard.

In Pete’s Dragon, the creature is one of the nicest you can meet until you piss him off, which brings to life some rather comical scenes. Even when pissed off, it’s still pretty cute, until its fiery breath is felt. The 2016 film is a reboot of the 1977 comic book. Elliot the dragon acted as a kind of guardian angel for children ?.

The film modernizes the concept in a unique way without ignoring the elements that made the charm of the original work. This adaptation will emphasize mystery and adventure, whereas the original focused more on fantasy and comedy. As for the bad guys. It’s a film with a nice dragon, to be watched with the family.

Draco Dragonheart

Probably the best dragon movie ever, dragonheart tells the story of Draco, a dragon who dared to share his heart to help keep a human prince alive. Sadly, his heart was wasted by a cruel tyrant, leading Draco to lose his faith in humanity. Partnered with intriguing ex-dragon-slaying knight Dennis Quaid, Draco, whose voice is that of Sean Connery, easily won over fans with his sarcastic comments and cranky character. Possibly the best Dragonheart cast.

The film even ended in tragedy, ensuring a better world for the kingdom and allowing Draco to earn his place among the stars with his fellow dragons. Critics may have found the film trite compared to its screenplay, but no one could deny the appeal of its visual and aesthetic value. Since its release, it has also inspired a video game and two sequels.

While it is unfortunate that the Dragonheart sequel was too terrible to tell, its original story combined the delightful fantasy tale of two jaded characters who trick villages into making money with the first truly realistic modern depiction of a dragon, making it one of the best dragon films of all time.

Hungarian Horntail Dragon Harry Potter

Fans of the Harry Potter franchise who have never read the books really miss out when it comes to Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (not to mention the rest of the books). A key element of the Wizards’ Tournament is the battle of dragons, but in the book, readers come face to face with several varieties of dragons. Harry must face the fiercest of the dragons in the movie: Reign of Fire.

They also get to know Charlie Weasley, a character completely ignored in the movies, but very much appreciated by the fans. The creatures are the most amazing moments in the Goblet of Fire, but the dragon scenes are such a fan favorite that there is even a dragon ride in the magical world of Harry Potter.

The world of Harry Potter is not limited to a single book or movie when it comes to harry potter dragons either. Gamekeeper Rubeus Hagrid adopted and hatched a dragon egg, named Norbert, in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. Harry, Ron and Hermione ride a Ukrainian Pansedefer during one of the best scenes in Harry and the Deathly Hallows.

Smaug Dragon Hobbit

Many fans agree that while there is much to enjoy in Peter Jackson’s Hobbit films, the portrait of the greedy dragon, Smaug, by Benedict Cumberbatch, makes the overall look of the film even more enjoyable. The special effects and the haughty character of the dragon, not to mention his amusing media interviews, made the rest of the film worth seeing.

The dragon’s thirst for gold and revenge was palpable on screen. Smaug’s sharp reptilian features, cunning golden eyes and velvety, murderous voice combine to create a fearsome and vicious creature like the world has never known. Many other dragon films have resulted in the creation of Smaug, the best modern depiction of a dragon the world has ever seen.

The Hobbit: Smaug’s Desolation” was a tremendous box office success, generating over $958 million worldwide. It has brought in even more money than “The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers”, although many fans claim to like the latter films much more.
